Thank you for your interest in volunteering your time. The Greater Chicago Food Depository has a serious commitment to volunteerism, and we are truly grateful for the work you do. We do our best to ensure that volunteers have a positive experience with us, through careful planning, management, and training. Together, we can properly and efficiently distribute clean, quality food to our recipient agencies.

Regular Volunteer Needs

• Cleaning, sorting, and/or repacking donated food and other products.
• Loading food onto Food Depository and member agency vehicles.
• Assisting with administrative tasks, including preparing mailings and filing for various departments.

• Volunteers must wear pants and closed toed shoes. Jeans and sneakers are best. No volunteers may work in shorts, tank tops, or open-toed shoes.

• Please plan on arriving 15 minutes early so that we may start promptly. We provide a 5-10 minute orientation at the beginning of each session for all new volunteers.

What To Bring

We encourage each volunteer to bring an item of canned food. Priority items include: Cereal, Oatmeal, Canned Vegetables, Soup, Tuna, Canned Fruit, Rice, Beans, Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Mac Ôn Cheese
